The inferior vena cava syndrome happens when the inferior vena cava (the vein that pumps the blood back towards the heart) is being put under pressure by the weight of the baby, the moment a pregnant woman starts to lie on her back. If the mother then starts to lie on her left side (the vein is located on the right hand side in the abdominal area) this should solve the issue at hand immediately.
